Election - Council Districts 3 and 5, Joel Wachs

With city council members Laura Chick and Mike Feuer running for city controller and city attorney, respectively, up for grabs are two seats that could ultimately create a new dynamic on the council. Harold Meyerson, executive editor of the LA Weekly, foresees a fundamental ideological shift in Chic's 3rd District with two moderate Democrats and two conservatives facing off for her West San Fernando Valley seat. He calls Tom Hayden a likely runoff contender for Feuer's 5th District which stretches from Van Nuys and Studio City to Westwood and the Fairfax district. (Kyle McKinnon guest hosts.) Newsmaker:: State Treasurer on Energy Bond, Davis' Speech - For months, Governor Davis has been negotiating, calling for federal help, and fielding criticism. His aides have been urging him to give a speech to his constituents. Tonight he addressed the state with a brief but long-awaited speech on the energy crisis. We hear reaction from outspoken State Treasurer Phil Angelides. Reporter's Notebook: Candidate To 'Wachs' Political - Patron of the arts and city councilman, Joel Wachs has represented the eastern San Fernando Valley for 30 years. He speaks openly about his relationship with LA's creative community, campaign finance reform, civil rights, the environment, Santa Monica Mountains, recent federal consent decree and police reform.
