Environmental Anti-Immigrationists
America's 550,000 Sierra Club members are receiving a ballot in the mail which asks the not-so-simple question: Should we adopt a population policy that advocates a reduction in immigration? Environmental and population control theories have long been married but this movement introduces public policy that some consider xenophobic. We'll hear arguments from both sides of the ballot.
Dr. Ben Zuckerman: Professor of physics and astronomy at UCLA. Member of UCLA's Institute of the Environment. A Sierra Club member for over 30 years who is one of the three initiators of the "population stabilization" ballot question. Hunter Cutting: Spokesperson for Sierrans Fighting Overpopulation Not Immigrants. Leon Kolankiewicz: Vice President of Carrying Capacity Network, which supports population stabilization and environmental conservation. Lifetime member of the Sierra Club since 1979. Carl Pope: Executive Director of the Sierra Club. Dr. Bob Gottlieb: UCLA Professor at the School of Public Policy and Social Research where he focuses on environmental policy. Ken Ferber: Spokesperson for the Police Commission. Ellen Miller: Executive Director of Public Campaign.
