Heat Wave: Is California in for Another Energy Crisis?

Enron's not gaming the system, Gray Davis is not the governor anymore and energy de-regulation has been partly repealed. Some new power plants have been constructed, but others are getting old or going off line altogether, and increased population means increased demand. With continued heat comes record demand for electricity, and power officials have declared at least a Stage Two Emergency. As we begin our program, we don't know if there's been a State Three declaration, which means rolling blackouts. We speak with clean energy experts and advocates for an assessment of what's in store and get some pointers on staying cool.
