Which Way, L.A.?

Internet Security

How secure are the web sites you visit every day in the wake of last week's attacks that paralyzed Amazon.com, Buy.com, Yahoo and E-bay. What about the information you give to those web merchants? Can the government protect us from hackers? Or should we look at the attack as nothing more than a teen prank? Scheduled guests include Kevin Mitnick, who Time called the "world's most - hunted hacker." He's just out of prison after spending 4 1/2 years before pleading guilty to wire and computer fraud; Richard Smith, who helped track down the writer of the "Melissa" computer virus; Scott Rosenberg, managing editor and columnist at Salon.com. REPORTER'S NOTEBOOK: Author and Los Angeles Times reporter Robin Wright on the pro-reform outcome of the Iranian elections.
