Jerry Brown Delivers His State of the State

In his State of the State address tonight, Governor Jerry Brown invoked challenged Republicans to let Californians vote on his plan to extend taxes in order to save public services. He said it's time for Sacramento to seek voters' guidance and that anything else would be "unconscionable." He also defended his plan to shut down redevelopment agencies and spend the money for police, fire and other local expenses. We hear excerpts of his address and get reaction from Republicans and others. On our rebroadcast of To the Point, an update on the situation in Egypt, where protesters are defying another afternoon curfew with no opposition as yet from military troops, and there's talk of turning millions of people into the street tomorrow.

He said it's time for Sacramento to seek voters' guidance and that anything else would be "unconscionable." He also defended his plan to shut down redevelopment agencies and spend the money for police, fire and other local expenses. We hear more of his latest State of the State speech and hear reaction from Republicans and others. On our rebroadcast of today's To the Point, the Obama Administration appears to be distancing itself from Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, after 30 years of support in the name of "regional stability." In Cairo, protesters are defying another afternoon curfew with no opposition as yet from Egyptian troops, and there's talk of turning millions of people into the street tomorrow.
