    Mideast summit and Barak's worries

Whatever else can be said about Jimmy Carter's Presidency, he always will be remembered for bringing together Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat so they could reach the agreement that won them the Nobel Prize. Now Bill Clinton, a lame duck with a mixed record, has set the stage for another possible breakthrough in the Middle East. The so-called "ultimate issues" are on the table. Israeli security and the final boundaries of a Palestinian state. The disposition of both Palestinian refugees and Jewish settlers. And most difficult of all, the status of Jerusalem, the city both sides claim as central to their very identities. As Ehud Barak and Yasser Arafat arrive at Camp David, both are lacking support at home. Even if President Clinton can help them forge an agreement, can they make it stick? On Reporter's Notebook, an up close and personal look at the violence in Los Angeles that forced a violence and gang summit this week. On the Newsmaker, the White House Office on Drug Policy explains its alleged attempts to influence Hollywood movie-making.
