    Which Way, L.A.?

    One Year In, Has Prop 47 Made California Less Safe?

    Since California voters passed Prop 47 less than a year ago, some crimes are on the increase while arrests are on the decline. Is that a consequence of reducing some non-violent felonies to misdemeanors in order to curb the high cost of over-crowded prisons? Cops and prosecutors are divided. Should Prop 47 be amended or is it too early to tell?

    Just last November, California voters approved Prop 47 by an overwhelming 60 percent. Already, there are calls for making change because of so-called "unintended consequences." We hear from Ben Poston of the LA Times and from two prosecutors who disagree about whether the measure’s responsible for an increase in crime.
