Republican from Bakersfield Sets Sights on Cantor’s Job

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor suffered a stunning upset last night in a Virginia Congressional primary. He spent $5 million, compared to his Tea Party Opponent, David Brat, who spent just $200,000 and never thought he could win. Today the big question is, will Kevin McCarthy of Bakersfield be the next Majority Leader?

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor suffered a stunning upset last night in a Virginia Congressional primary. He spent $5 million, compared to his Tea Party Opponent, David Brat, who spent just $200,000 and never thought he could win. Today the big question is, will Kevin McCarthy of Bakersfield be the next Majority Leader? Cantor says, “If he does decide to run, I think he would make an outstanding majority leader and I will be backing him with my full support.” Carolyn Lochhead covers Washington for the San Francisco Chronicle.
