Richard Alarcon, Mayoral Candidate Still Running Hard

Richard Alarc-n was first off the blocks in this year-s race for Mayor of Los Angeles, but with campaign money hard to come by, he's now running dead last behind Mayor Jim Hahn and three other challengers. Despite only registering 3% of those polled in the latest LA Times survey, the State Senator says, -David beat Goliath and the tortoise beat the hare.- In this first in a series of interviews with the major candidates, we hear about Alarc-n-s experience as a political leader, his vision for Los Angeles and why he thinks he still has a chance to achieve it. Making News: California Democrats Oppose Bush Budget Assembly Speaker Fabian Nu-ez and Senate Pro Tem Don Perata say President Bush's budget makes a bad situation worse and underscores the importance of next week-s trip to Washington with Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. In Los Angeles, Mayor Jim Hahn has begun a -campaign- against the Bush spending plan. David Drucker has been analyzing its impact on Southern California for the Daily News.
