Term Limits for City Council; Ethics Reform on the Ballot
Los Angeles City Council members want to serve three four-year terms instead of just two, and they've given voters an incentive to agree to that change. A term-limit extension the council placed on the November ballot today will also include limits on lobbyist spending and new rules for campaign disclosure. Passed unanimously today, the measure was written up by the League of Women Voters and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. We hear more about the measure originally titled "The City Government Responsibility, Lobbying and Ethics Reform Act" from experts in governance and ethics, and political activists, including one who helped write the measure.
