On his 75th birthday, Cardinal Roger Mahony retired yesterday as Archbishop of Los Angeles and turned America's largest Roman Catholic Archdiocese over to José Gomez , recently the Bishop of San Antonio. There were masses in both English and Spanish at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, which overflowed with the faithful.
