Which Way, L.A.?

The Inauguration of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger

It was small potatoes compared to the Oscars, but for Sacramento, it was a big-time event as Arnold Schwarzenegger took the oath as the 38th Governor of California. After his inauguration, the action-movie star became an action-Governor by immediately repealing the car tax, calling the Legislature into three special sessions, starting tomorrow, and ordering a review of every regulation adopted in the past five years. More than 700 journalists were credentialed for this morning-s event, about the number that covers presidential inaugurations in Washington. We hear about the Governor's first day in office and what's going to happen next from Carla Marinucci of the San Francisco Chronicle, Dan Weintraub of the Sacramento Bee, and Tim Hodson of the Center for California Studies at California State University, Sacramento. Making News: LA Busses Rolling Again The transit strike is not over yet, but the buses are rolling again tonight, while the MTA and mechanics in the Amalgamated Transit Union engage in non-binding arbitration of the biggest issue of all-health care. LA Times reporter Sharon Bernstein says that the tentative deal addresses healthcare coverage for current and retired workers as well as management of the union's healthcare fund.
