Which Way, L.A.?

The New Architecture of Los Angeles

Last week, downtown Los Angeles celebrated two new beginnings for two very unusual LA institutions. Angelenos thronged to the Bradbury Building, the gorgeous renovation of a 19th Century businessman's dream and home to the new museum of Architecture and Design. On the site of the old freight yards along the LA River, a maverick architect took the helm at a maverick architecture school. Will these new roles for historic LA landmarks bring architecture from the stratosphere down to the streets, and the public back to downtown? We ask real Estate developer Ira Yellin, a founding member of the new Architecture and Design Museum, and SCI-Arc Director Eric Owen Moss.
