Which Way, L.A.?

Week Two of LA's transit strike: no end in sight.

The MTA had big dreams and the money to make them come true. It was established to build a transit system that would ease both pollution and traffic congestion by getting commuters out of their cars. So what created the current nightmare of debt, idle equipment and stranded commuters? How did an agency with so much promise end up billions of dollars in debt? Newsmaker: Today's New York Times contains an extraordinary account of the paper's handling of the Wen Ho Lee story, disputing suggestions that it was part of a witch hunt, but admitting things "we wish we had done differently." We speak with Lance Gay who covered the story for the Scripps Howard newspaper. Reporter's Notebook: The editor of the Prague Post describes today's demonstrations against the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
