Will Court of Appeals Reinstate October 7 Recall Date?

Eleven judges from the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals took another look today at the decision by three of their colleagues to delay the recall from next month until next March. More than 100 candidates and millions of voters await that decision, which could come as soon as tomorrow. Arguing on behalf of the ACLU was Harvard constitutional scholar Laurence Tribe, who had unsuccessfully argued the case that decided the Presidential election in Florida. California Deputy Attorney General Douglas Woods argued that the court did not have the right to overrule an earlier lower court ruling. Today-s arguments also addressed the disposition of thousands of absentee ballots, and two propositions that are also on the ballot. Reporter-s Notebook: Fan Violence at Dodger Stadium During last Friday-s game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants, a man was shot to death in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium. The shooting appears to have resulted from an argument between fans of the two rival teams.
