    Back to Which Way, L.A.?

    Which Way, L.A.?

Will it be a melee in L.A.?

Protesters say they're building a worldwide movement against the institutions of economic globalization. But, as the action shifts from Seattle to Washington, D.C. to this summer's presidential nominating conventions, who is it that always gets caught in the middle? The cops. Both the demonstrators and the groups they're protesting against are constitutionally protected. It's the police who are charged with maintaining the balance. Seattle dramatically demonstrated what can go wrong. Today in Washington, traffic's been snarled and riot-equipped officers have called in the National Guard. What are the prospects here in LA, where the Democrats will be convening in August?
