Californians Need a Concierge

In another of his modest proposals, Zócalo columnist Joe Mathews says all Californians should be given access to a personal concierge to help negotiate California's notorious governmental red tape. He's tired of waiting around for that "one-stop shop" that politicians have been promising us for years.

It's one of the holy grails of California politics -- along with low taxes. And it's a theme that candidates like to trot out every so often, especially in an election year like this one. We're talking about streamlining government, creating a one-stop shop that offers all the necessary information in one place to help you if you're starting a business or building a house. But Zócalo Public Square columnist Joe Mathews says California is simply too complex for such simplicity.
