Earthquakes are how we roll

California got off easy with the back-to-back earthquakes the struck in the Mojave Desert earlier this month. The damage was confined to a pair of remote communities, leaving most of us unscathed. Zocalo Public Square commentator Joe Mathews says that even as Californians fear the Big One, we actually love living in earthquake country. Big temblors have played an important role in the state’s history – and despite property damage and loss of life – Mathews says they’ve generally been a force for positive change.
