Zócalo's Connecting California

It's time to put our Bigfoot forward

In spite of all those sightings in the Northwest, Bigfoot is a Californian. At least that's what he tells Zócalo Public Square columnist Joe Mathews. Whether you believe in the big fellow or not, Joe says Bigfoot has lessons to teach the rest of us in the Golden State. For starters, Bigfoot is concerned about unintended impacts of our growing incursions into wild areas. (Think Forest fires.) And he says it's wise to have some reverence – and some fear – of the things that we can't understand.
