    Californians were solidly behind Democrat Hilary Clinton in the presidential election. With Republican Donald Trump going to the White House, Zócalo Public Square columnist Joe Mathews says this state should expect a lot of conflict with the federal government over the next four years.

    On issues ranging from immigration and climate change to health care and marijuana, Californians stand on the opposite side of the fence from President Elect Donald Trump and the GOP leadership in Washington. Zócalo Public Square columnist Joe Mathews says that means this state will be butting heads on a regular basis with the Trump Administration. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. The Unites States needs a counterweight to the Trump government, and Mathews says no state is better suited for that role than California.
