Regardless of the infinitely confounding narrative behind Nigerian music producer and international man of mystery William Onyeabor (or perhaps even because of it) KCRW and David Byrne’s indelible Luaka Bop label (who released the gloriously psychedelic “Who is William Onyeabor?” album which was incidentally named one of Time magazine’s Albums of the Year last year) are presenting an all star studded night of music beneath the stars celebrating Onyeabor’s work.

His funky blend of synth-pop with Afro-disco sounds as relevant now (if not more so) than it did in the late 70s and early 80s when it was made.

His productions pop with a positively timeless groove that simply demand any music fan’s attention.

Consequently Mr. Bryne, whose Talking Heads sound is definitively laced with Onyeabor DNA, has called upon a cast of exquisite players to pay tribute to the man and his music in a perfectly curated evening of music.

Alexis Taylor ofHot Chip, Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem, Kele Okereke of Bloc Party and the legendary Lijadu Sisters (who will be making their first live appearance in 30 years) and a handful of other guests will grace the stage of LA’s glorious Greek Theatre with Mr. Byrne to perform ATOMIC BOMB! for one night only.

It promises to be a truly unique spectacle the likes of which rarely happen and will be talked about for years to come.

Whether you’ve heard Onyeabor’s music or not (which you most definitely should) if you love music and/or any one of the aforementioned bands (whose music are unquestionably influenced by Onyeabor,) I promise an unforgettable experience and night of music you will be glad you went and saw.

Personally, I haven’t been as stoked for a live show since New Order performed at The Greek 2 years ago.

Do yourself and your music loving ears a huge favor and check it out…May 8th. Tickets are still available.
