Fired from UCLA for being a communist, she later became one of the FBI’s 10 most wanted criminals–for a crime she didn’t commit.

The trial that ensued made her a celebrated political prisoner of her day.

A new documentary, produced by Jay-Z, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, puts Angela Davis’ brand of social activism in perspective–in large part, with her help; the almost 70-year old Davis consented to an interview for the film.

“Free Angela and All Political Prisoners” opens in Los Angeles and in other selected cities around the country tonight. Here’s a NY Times review.
