Australia, France and India
The Global Gig Guide heads to Homebake in Australia; Trans Musicales in France and Live Earth in India.
Homebake takes place on one day and at one venue – December 6th in Sydney’s Royal Botanical Gardens. I haven’t been to Homebake but I can vouch for the location - it’s a gorgeous lush expanse of tropical plants with leaves the size of houses – set against the backdrop of Sydney’s skyscrapers and busy harbour below.
Trans Musicales takes place in the city of Rennes in Brittany - a city known for its Gallo language and was the first city in France to be liberated by Patton’s army in 1944. Back to 2008 and the 30th edition of Trans Musiciales begins in early December– artists on the bill include Bon Iver, , El Guincho and France’s own Birdy Nam Nam. Local Brittany boy Yann Tiersen – known for his work on the soundtrack to Amelie – will be collaborating with Orka – known for instruments made out found objects – so the collaboration of Tiersen and Orka will definitely be interesting and could well include the kitchen sink!
Live Earth had events taking place all over the world but this year its focused only on Mumbai . Roger Waters of Pink Floyd fame has just been added to the bill alongside Will.i.am, Bon Jovi and Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachan. Proceeds will to Light a Billion Lives campaign which aims to provide solar power to rural areas of India.
