KCRW DJ Jeremy Sole has a distinctive sought-after approach to his remixes.

If you’ve ever seen the man, you won’t be surprised to hear he’s got a thing for vintage.

He loves all things analog and when he was approached about remixing Beck’s “I Won’t Be Long” – based on his remix of David Bowie’s “Golden Years”—he knew exactly what he wanted to do.

He wanted to pay tribute to the fact that Beck “writes in a timeless way devoid of any genre” and had the idea of taking a psychedelic approach to the remix project.

Jeremy recruited Stones Throw recording artists and psychedelic soul band The Stepkids to strip Beck’s original song down to ONLY the vocals, completely re-play all the instrumentation in their own distinct way.

He then remixed their pieces, making a twice-baked remix of sorts. As he has with many of his remixes, Jeremy enlisted his long-time collaborator Ticklah (aka Victor Axelrod of Antibalas, Amy Winehouse and Daptone fame) to do the final mixing and “dubbing” of the track for that analog warmth and classic sound.

He recently posted it on his Soundcloud page — where you’ll find lots of other excellent remixes!
