Booker T Jones by Larry Hirshowitz

When we get a legend here in the KCRW studios, we all just take a step back and appreciate how lucky we are to work here. Having Booker T Jones, one of the masterminds of the Stax soul sound of the ‘60s and ‘70s, and his phenomenal band visit the basement was a true honor. They played an extended version of one of the most classic instrumental tracks of all time – “Green Onions” – as well as a request from DJ Gary Calamar, “Hip Hug-Her”. He also played covers of Lauryn Hill’s “Everything is Everything” and Outkast’s “Hey Ya”.

It’s a phenomenal session that I can’t recommend enough! Listen/watch here
