A group of heavy hitters will be coming together to celebrate one of the best eras and genres of music – 70’s soul – THIS Sunday, in an event hosted by KCRW’s own Garth Trinidad.

Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Sly Stone, Stevie Wonder and more will get re-workings from a incredibly talented group of individuals.

LA’s Miguel Atwood Ferguson Ensemble will be guiding the evening with a variety of special guests — Seu Jorge, Zap Mama, Coco from Quadron and Spacek. One of my favorite soul singers, Alice Russell, will also make an appearance. Below is her excellent new single “Heartbreaker”:

Oh, and did I mention Questlove from The Roots will be spinning a DJ set? Yup, that’s right! Check out details below and buy tickets here.

From Garth: “An event like this only comes around once in a while. With such a stellar line up, it’s sure to be legendary.”

If you want an idea of the soul and funk classics you’ll be grooving to this Saturday, check out this You Tube playlist from Art Don’t Sleep, who are putting on the event.
