Darker My Love debuted two new songs exclusively for KCRW today as part of their live performance on Morning Becomes Eclectic – the Bob Dylan-esque “Rain Down South” and “Tis A Great Art To Saunter.” The rest of the set was filled out with song’s from the LA band’s latest release on Dangerbird Records, “Alive as You Are.”

Darker My Love intrigues me as a band because each of their last three albums are so different from each other. Singer/guitarist Tim Presley told Jason Bentley that “Alive As You Are” marked a rebirth for the band. He says they made the record they always wanted to make without compromise.

The band recorded in San Francisco’s legendary Hyde Street Studios where Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Grateful Dead laid down classic albums. I’m an unabashed fan of the Dead and I’m thrilled that their rootsy psychedelia seems to have been a big influence on the new tracks.

This is the sort of album that makes me proud to live on the West Coast, as it totally captures our vibe.
