David Lynch on painting, meditation, and LA weather

David Lynch is well known as an experimental filmmaker, directing such cult classics as Eraserhead, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, and the surreal TV series Twin Peaks.

He’s also a musician, with two studio albums under his belt, including this year’s The Big Dream, which he performed songs from on Morning Becomes Eclectic.

But Lynch is less known as a visual artist, even though he studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia.

A show of new paintings, drawings and watercolors by Lynch will open at Kayne Griffin Corcoran in Los Angeles will open from Nov. 23 to Jan. 4, and may expose more audiences to other facets of his creative output.

Lynch spoke to KCRW about the new work, his involvement with transcendental meditation, and the weather in Los Angeles.
