Delta Rae’s set up inside the studio – a large chain, metal trashcan, bass drum with their logo, many pairs of drumsticks – gave us a hint of what was to come, but we were still stunned by their performance.

They brought swampy, bluesy, gospel stomp and excellent four-part harmonies to our airwaves. The North Carolina-based sextet is made up of three blond-haired siblings, a childhood friend, and two newer members on bass and drums.

I actually remember the very first time Jason played their big song “

Bottom of the River” because it sounds like nothing else right now and instantly grabbed my attention. The band says it came to singer Eric Holljes in a dream.

Another highlight was “Dance in the Graveyards” and they also treated us to a brand new song, a bit of blue-eyed soul on “Whatchu Thinkin’ ‘Bout Baby?”.

Check out the set here and, if you’re in LA, come see them tomorrow in Old Pasadena for free!
