It’s safe to say we’ve all been romanced by Diego Garcia’s album “Laura”. The former frontman for indie rock band Elefant says he wrote these songs in an effort to woo back Laura, who is now his wife. His mission was to sing about love in a grown up way and he tapped into his Argentinean roots to find the right sound to accompany it, though he chose to sing in English because it felt too forced in Spanish.

The classical guitar (played by one of TWO Zeke’s in the band) was really a standout in the Morning Becomes Eclectic live performance. I also liked Diego’s story about writing “You Were Never There” in Brentwood, and how the first few lines are a commentary on LA traffic!

He even threw in a cover of Ray Davies’ “This Strange Effect”. Enjoy a live set and come see Diego perform for free as part of KCRW’s Summer Nights series at One Colorado in Pasadena on Saturday. More info here.
