Brazilian cellist and singer Dom La Nena has a sweet spot for Argentina, having spent her youth there to study her instrument.

On a recent visit to Morning Becomes Eclectic we asked her to perform a cover of a song that she holds dear and she gifted us with her rendition of Chilean musician Violeta Parra’s“Gracias A La Vida”, one of her most renowned songs.

It was introduced to American audiences in 1974, sung in Spanish by Joan Baez, who continues to offer it as a staple in her live shows.

However, the song is most associated with the late Argentine singer Mercedes Sosa, the “voice of the voiceless ones.”

It is a song that speaks of gratitude and deeply moved her. She never left the stage without sharing it and having the audience join her.

We hear the awe and respect in Dom La Nena’s version.
