We hear animated GIFs are coming back in a major way. We’ve been seeing them left and right on our tumblr stream. So when Echograph offered to shoot some at the Masquerade Ball, we were into it! Check out these tricky trippy images and learn more about how they were made below!

How does it work? So, you shoot a video and load it into your iPad. From within the Echograph app, you select a five-second clip, and choose one still as the main frame. Next, use your finger to erase part of the image. That portion of the frozen image is replaced by video playing on an endless loop. The result? Hybrid images that keep your eye guessing.
