As far as the “tastemakers” of our generation, there is one person at the pinnacle of praise for me, personally.
A man that has ushered entire genres onto the world stage, and broke bands that are either household names or underground heroes and legends. His name is Gilles Peterson.
It took over a year to bring Gilles to the states in 2011, and when he stepped onto the stage at theLIFT, a monthly event I produce with Wiseacre and Jonathan Rudnick, over a thousand friends roared with excitement and had their ears stretched to every style of music for over three hours.
He returns this weekend, with KCRW and theLIFT presenting Gilles Peterson in both SAN FRANCISCO (Friday 5/24) and LOS ANGELES (Saturday 5/25). Every month theLIFT is in a new location and, for this special event, the LA gig takes place at 333 Live (a venue formerly owned by Prince)
