On the final day of their North American tour, The Very BestKCRW visited to record a live session in our studio which will air next month.

After the set, I asked the Malawian singer, Esau Mwamwaya, about what music he is spinning to keep his spirits up on tour.

He immediately replied, “Gramps Morgan!” — the keyboardist for the reggae band Morgan Heritage.

The band formed in 1994 and consists of the five children of reggae artist, Denroy Morgan. One of those 5 children, Roy “Gramps” Morgan set out on his own and has since released two solo albums.

Esau said “he’s a killer” and is “taking over in Africa right now.”

His personal favorite, the song “Time”, is a perfect example of why!

**KCRW will air a live session with the The Very Best in July. Stay tuned!! ***
