Jason threw in a gem during Morning Becomes Eclectic today that I had to share in video form.

It’s Sonic Youth‘s cover of The Carpenters’ track “Superstar” and he nestled it between Beck’s cover of the Velvet Underground‘s “I’ll Be Your Mirror” and The Rolling Stones‘ “She’s a Rainbow“, topping off the set with MGMT’s “Song For Dan Treacy”, which was a highlight of their live session on the station in 2010.

Deejaying truly is an art form — not at most stations but definitely at KCRW –and this was a moment of true artfulness!

You can find Sonic Youth’s cover on a compilation called “If I Were a Carpenter“.
