Flying Lotus’ Existential Hood Trip… “Until The Quiet Comes” by Kahlil Joseph
In Greek Mythology, when one passes from the world of the living to the world of the dead, one must cross the river Acheron. Eternally, waiting at the waters edge…
In “Until The Quiet Comes,” a stunning new short film (in advance of the forthcoming LP of the same name,) LA’s one and only Flying Lotus sits quietly in an idling, hydraulically tweaked ’65 Chevy, as the Charon of the Nickerson Gardens housing project in Watts.
I would be doing a terrible disservice to you and the film to make any attempt at describing the stunningly horrific beauty of filmmaker Kahlil Joseph’s new work.
In an email exchange, Tom Schnabel called it, “a very impressionistic film…beautiful juxtaposition of surreal floating in a crystal sea against the hard edges of Nickerson Gardens and ghetto life.” See for yourself.
