genesis for Which Way, LA? The idea was to do a show that engaged Angelenos in conversation to respond to the concerned raised by the LA Riots. One of our early shows, broadcast on June 17, 1992 just days before Chief Daryl Gates resigned took a look at the LAPD and what needed to change. Listen below.

Last night at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, the police chief designate of Los Angeles, Willie Williams gave his first major public address before the annual dinner meeting of the American Jewish Committee. We hear that speech in its entirety. We then speak with George Hofstetter, a 25-year veteran of the LAPD. He’s gong to retire on June 27, the same day that Chief Daryl Gates is expected to step down. We also speak with Joseph Wambaugh, one of America’s best known and most successful novelists, and a man who has gained worldwide fame for writing books about the LAPD, where he served for fourteen years.
