Interview with Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark

Among the great musical treasures of this year is The Punishment of Luxury, the 13th full-length album from electronic pop pioneers Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (or OMD, to use their officially-sanctioned abbreviation).

Since their 1979 debut single, “Electricity,” and through a series of ground-breaking tracks, such as “Enola Gay,” “Souvenir,” “Genetic Engineering,” “Tesla Girls,” “If You Leave,” and many others, they have helped define and redefine the ways electronic sounds are used in music.

Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, the two founders and core members of the band, stopped by the station to chat about their new work, which combines 21st Century pop music concepts with their trademark electro-pop melodies, as well as to give an inside look at their history, coming of age in the vanguard of the New Wave revolution.
