After four years, Jerome Potter (aka Jerome LOL) and Markus Garcia have decided to take an indefinite hiatus to focus on solo projects.

Last night on my show I had the privilege of hosting Jerome LOL, the LA-based half of the LOL Boys, for an exclusive mix and interview.

Just before we sat down to do the interview, Jerome dropped a bomb on me: the LOL Boys were going on an indefinite hiatus to focus on solo endeavors.

Let’s rewind a bit for those playing catch up: the LOL Boys an internet-based electronic duo comprised of Jerome Potter (a.k.a. Jerome LOL) and Montreal-based Markus Garcia. After 4 years of putting out buzzworthy EPs on various independent labels, they scored a surprise #1 on the KCRW chart a couple of weeks ago with their recently released Changes EP on LA-based Friends Of Friends Records. The LOL Boys, and Jerome in particular, are among the most in-demand DJs in the LA club scene. Recently, Jerome played the Low End Theory and Do-Over parties and was one of the co-headliners on the bill with Shlohmo and the Friends Of Friends crew that sold out the Echoplex.

Jerome has already gotten a jump on his new career as a solo artist, releasing two new tracks on his soundcloud page that are available as a free download. Markus also has solo work in the pipeline.

Here is the mix that Jerome put together especially for KCRW:

Jerome LOL Exclusive KCRW mix by KCRW

As a thank you to the fans who’ve supported the group through the years, the LOL Boyshave released a zip file of previously unreleased edits they did of a disparate array of acts such as Fiona Apple, Avicii, Lil Wayne and Carly Rae Jepsen (yes, you read that correctly) among others.

The final official release by the LOL Boys will be a Changes Remix EP featuring remixes by Todd Edwards, Star Slinger, Groundislava, CFCF, and Grant, the producer for internet sensation Kitty Pride.

If all that isn’t enough, Jerome has been busy running one of my favorite labels in the world — the endlessly exciting Body High Records. After a slew of incredible releases by the likes of Floyd Campbell, Myrryrs and Todd Edwards, Jerome announced that the coming months would see new releases by label co-head Samo Soundboy and a follow-up EP by the mysterious DJ Funeral.

Yeah, it sucks that the LOL Boys are dunzo (for now anyways), but maybe LOL Boys fans can hang their hat on the hope that with Jerome and Markus releasing work separately there will be twice as much LOL material out there. Fingers crossed.
