By Rachel Reynolds • • 1 min readJesca Hoop KCRW returned to for her third live performance and was as inspiring as ever. She is a truly unique musician and uses both her instruments — voice and guitar — in ways that continue to surprise me.
She got her start here at KCRW when some airplay from Nic Harcourt on Morning Becomes Eclectic resulted in tons of phone calls from listeners requesting her music. At the time she was a local musician, but has since moved to Manchester claiming “it was too sunny in Cali” (and partially at the urging of Elbow’s Guy Garvey).
She played tracks off her latest release “Hunting My Dress,” including our favorite “Murder of Birds” and a song inspired by KCRW DJ Chris Douridas. Jesca told Jason she woke up after having a dream about a particular song and when she got in the car and turned on the radio, Chris was playing that exact song. AND it was on her birthday. She describes it all in the track “Angel Mom.” Very cool!
