But when it comes to a celebrity, there can be a lot more involved – especially memorabilia.

And that got Seth Abramovitch – a senior writer at the Hollywood Reporter – thinking. What’s going to happen to all of Joan Rivers’ jokes? So he called the folks at the Smithsonian and asked them—would they want ‘em? And the museum said they’d be interested in talking with late comedienne’s family about it – when the time is right. It wouldn’t be a first for the Smithsonian.

We asked Abramovitch—how big a collection of jokes are we talking about?

Abramovitch says Rivers’ jokes could also end up at the Library of Congress – which is already home to the late Bob Hope’s joke file.
