KCRW is giving away our 1000th free song as part of our popular daily download program called Today’s Top Tune. To celebrate, curator Ariana Morgenstern has arranged a special slate of songs for the entire week – including a rare Spoon live track and a striking solo performance by Cold War Kids’ Nathan Willett – both recorded just for KCRW. http://www.kcrw.com/todaystoptune

KCRW launched Today’s Top Tune in April 2006 with a track from Alexi Murdoch. Over the years it has included many exclusives, remixes and rare or hard-to-find tracks – from a Justice remix of Franz Ferdinand’s “Fallen” to previously unavailable singles from artists like Inara George. Also, special sessions recorded during KCRW’s signature music show Morning Becomes Eclectic have become available to the public through TTT, including Thom Yorke’s performance of “Cymbal Rush.”

The 1000th song offered by Today’s Top Tune is a special live track from Spoon. While in the studio for a recent Morning Becomes Eclectic session, they stayed to record a song they rarely play live, “Something to Look Forward To,” off their album “Kill the Moonlight.” They played it live for the first time in 5 years the night before the session. On Wednesday. February 24, we feature a special solo performance of “Cryptomnesia” by Cold War Kids’ singer Nathan Willett recorded in our studio and on Thursday, February 25 we feature a track from the forthcoming album by Jose James, a station favorite.
