SXSW is a not just a music festival, it’s a journey. A journey that begins long before KCRW lands in Austin. In fact, it usually starts months before, as list after list of bands that are attending the festival make their way into the world.

And every year, from those lists, we choose the most promising artists making their way to Austin from around the world and showcase them at two official events. This year, those showcases go down on Tuesday, March 13, at Elysium (8p-2a), and Wednesday, March 14, at the Radio Day Stage (3p-6p).

Our night showcase at Elysium offers a true testament to the eclectic nature of KCRW’s programming. From trailblazing DJ/producer Cut Chemist to rising NPR Slingshot artists Jade Bird and Nilüfer Yanya, this evening puts a focus on artists poised for a BIG 2018.

KCRW’s Radio Day Stage features three artists in differing stages of their careers: venerable indie-rock duo, Wye Oak, are readying the release of their biggest and boldest album to date; Stones Throw artist Sudan Archives debuts tracks from her forthcoming album; and Marlon Williams – who is a KCRW SX showcase alum – returns to Austin behind his excellent sophomore release.

During the festival, tune in to Morning Becomes Eclectic as KCRW’s on-site crew – Jason Bentley, Anne Litt and José Galván – share their favorite musical discoveries and interviews from the scene. In addition, Litt will bring the spirit of SXSW onto the airwaves for both of her weekend shows (noon – 3pm).

The KCRW Music Blog will have preview coverage of bands to keep an eye on, as well as photos, videos and more throughout the fest. Stay up to the minute on KCRW’s Instagram for more exclusive SXSW content.
