Last Night in LA: Sebastien Tellier and MOre

Last night was another one of those great nights to be a music lover in LA.

The Westside had a rawkus dance party with KCRW’s own Jeremy Sole and Music Director Jason Bentley at the opener for The Hammer’s Made in LA Biennial. (Which is a fantastic exhibit, I must say.)

Silverlake’s Los Globos had a leftfield electronic goth seance with Pictureplane, Soft Metals, and White Car.

And Downtown LA experienced a downtempo French kiss from seductive sleazeball (and this generation’s electro-Gainsbourg) Sebastien Tellier, slo-mo disco-bros Poolside, and DJ sets from jackmaster Jacques Renault and local hero (and all around rad dude) Dirty Dave.

Much as I wish I could’ve been at ALL of these events, any potential live performance of “La Ritournelle“ by Tellier takes priority, so I was at 333 Boylston. Legend has it the club used to be co-owned by The Purple One and the dark but airy nature of the place was perfect for the event. Vice Magazine, MFG Productions, and a strange new alcohol infused water called Air (Yes. You read that right.) were behind the FREE event.

It was slightly debaucherous affair for a Thursday, what with all the free Air samples, hor d’oerves, and endless mini-skirts but the fact is, it was a stellar night of music that continually rose and fell like a perfect sensual tide. I left exhausted and completely satisfied. A real good night. The Vice AirParties series of shows continues up and down the coast through August.
