Future Islands singer Samuel Herring has a voice that is instantly identifiable. And sonically, the band manages to sound both light and dark. The music hits synth pop high notes while the lyrics are about love and loss – it just tugs at your heart with swelling melodies.

Future Islands – Before the Bridge by thrilljockey

Jason Bentley told me that what he loves about the Baltimore trio is that their music is “just emotionally charged. It feels super intimate.” Their new album “On The Water” will be out October 11 on Thrill Jockey and I wanted to offer a two-song preview before they head to LA for the FYF Fest Labor Day Weekend.
