Camilo Lara aka Mexican Institute of Sound has been a KCRW regular for some time, but his live performance this week was a standout set because now he has a band! As he said, he used the “Nirvana equation” — adding a drummer and a bass player, with him singing and playing keys.

It was an energetic dance party that transcended language. And, to me, that’s what music is all about!

He dedicated a song to his native city, “Mexico”, and even brought out a couple old favorites like “El Microfono”. Check it all out in the archives here.
