You can’t compare Laura Mvula to Michael Jackson.
It’s like trying to compare a rare red burgundy to white sturgeon caviar. They’re completely different, but equally rich. However, if you had to choose one over the other, you’re walking away happy.
In many aspects, Laura’s voice has a lot of the same qualities that Michael had. Their pitches and tones are different but the end results, specifically their ability to translate sound into textures that stimulate the senses, is the same.
On her recent visit to Morning Becomes Eclectic, Laura announced that she was going to cover Michael’s “Human Nature”. It was both an obvious choice and a mystery as to what we were getting. We couldn’t wait.
So listen for yourself, see if you can hear the differences and the similarities. But I think you’ll agree that either way, whether you’re a caviar fan or prefer the grapes of Burgundy, you’ll be satisfied with the results.
(Fun Facts: “Human Nature“ was the last song added to Jackson’sThriller album. It was the fifth single of the album and was co-written by Toto’s Steve Porcaro and was released 30 years ago to the day of writing this. Weird.)
