When I saw Prefix’s tweet about a collaboration between UK singer Michael Kiwanuka and Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, I couldn’t click on the link fast enough. Then within 30 seconds of listening to “Lasan”, I sent it to both Jason Bentley and Anne Litt.

Anne was equally excited, saying it’s an “unexpected but perfect pairing. I wish I had thought of the idea to put them together!”

Michael Kiwanuka Feat. Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) – Lasan by PinBoardBlog

Auerbach is known for his gritty soul – on his solo work and as part of the Black Keys – while Kiwanuka has this innocently beautiful yet deeply moving soulful sound. They are like two planets of the soul universe colliding for one fantastic track.

Michael will be playing KCRW’s SXSW showcase on March 14 andyou can check out a live set he recorded at the station here. His full length debut will be out March 12!
