Motopony Live on KCRW – Seer

Motoponyis a mystery. It’s hard to find out anything about them, except that they hail from the Pacific Northwest and have released a stunning self-titled debut. Frontman Daniel Blue says it’s purposeful:

“I love mystery. I love magic and myth and symbolism and I think all those things really went into the idea behind Motopony.

The name is an attempt to marry worlds and give you a new idea about something that doesn’t have a lot to it.”

Blue is charismatic in a way that is hard to describe – he doesn’t have the physical theatrics of, say, a Freddie Mercury but he uses his fantastic voice as an instrument in so many different ways and performs with complete confidence. It’s clear to me this was what he was meant to do and, when he’s singing, he’s in a zone.

He previously dabbled in fashion design but said he was just “trying his hand at whatever creative expression he could find” in order to find his voice.

Motopony played to a packed crowd for their Los Angeles debut last night at Bardot, and credited KCRW with spreading their music to the masses. The band says this is their first real push out of Washington. They play the Troubadour tonight and return for a FREE show in Pasadena on June 25presented by KCRW.

Trust me, you’re not going to want to miss that one.
