Net loss: Donovan prepares to call it a career

The manwidely considered to be best U.S. soccer player of all time could play his final game this weekend.

Landon Donovan has announced that he’ll retire after this season with the L.A. Galaxy. And that season could end Sunday if the Galaxy doesn’t beat real Salt Lake City in the second leg of their first-round playoff matchup.

Donovan holds scoring and assist records for both the U.S. National Team and Major League Soccer. He’s scored 41 game-winning goals during his 10-year MSL career, winning three championships with the Galaxy.

Donovan – who grew up in Redlands – is just 32 and still playing at a high level. He took several months off from soccer in 2012 because of mental exhaustion, and that may have cost him a spot on the most recent U.S. World Cup Team.

Donovan says he may enroll in college when his career wraps up.
